Why did they become StudMentors?

Six years ago, I chose biology because I was inspired by life in all its forms. That spark has never left me, and I still share it with anyone curious enough to ask.

I love explaining complex things in simple words and watching a child’s eyes literally light up when they finally understand. It’s such a joy to see a “difficult” child gain confidence through new knowledge. Imagine this: so many children give up on learning because they’ve lost faith in themselves — and with that, their interest in school. I believe this can and should be rebuilt through open communication and genuine curiosity from the teacher.

I love working with children, and I love history. In these difficult times, it’s especially important to support children who can’t access quality education because of the war. I also see it as my responsibility, as someone who studied at a state-funded university, to use my education to spark children’s interest in history.

I want to work with children. I enjoy helping them learn. I want education to be more accessible and clear, so that kids have motivation and desire to study. I also share the values of Teach For Ukraine. Looking back, I feel the education I received at school was weak, and the methods outdated. Yes, there have been some changes since then, but not enough. That’s why I want to contribute to improving education in Ukraine and support children in their learning.

I see StudMentor as a great opportunity to develop my skills in working with children. The experience I gain from this program can also help me understand what I want to do in life. Besides, working with kids is a big responsibility that encourages personal growth — every time, you try to become a better version of yourself, to set a good example, and to teach them something new.

I love teaching. For me, it’s a form of self-expression. While on an academic exchange abroad, I felt an even stronger urge to volunteer and give back to Ukraine — so now I try every opportunity I can. For me, StudMentor is, above all, about being able to act here and now, without waiting for some “perfect moment.” I’m ready to help schoolchildren become better versions of themselves and, in this way, contribute to Ukraine’s growth. This program is also an amazing platform for building meaningful connections and a strong community — something Ukrainians really need right now.
