Teach for Ukraine

A non-governmental organisation that works to ensure that every child in Ukraine can realise their potential, regardless of their place of birth or residence.

We engage the best graduates and young professionals from diverse backgrounds to invest their skills and energy to teach for two years in Ukraine’s rural schools, where they become role models, open new opportunities in children’s lives and contribute to the development of their communities.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS — ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A program to change the country.

For a school to participate in Teach for Ukraine is much more than just an opportunity to get a fellow who will teach a particular subject. It is also about extracurricular activities for children, opportunities for professional development for the administration and teaching staff, and an environment of constant aspiration towards new educational opportunities in the community of like-minded people. Each school is a separate story of success and challenges, so Teach for Ukraine aims to understand the request of a particular partner school and work with that request throughout the program.

The program's fellows are young people who have a deep knowledge of one of the school subjects, a strong motivation to teach at school, and are ready to move to a rural community for 2 years to participate in Teach for Ukraine. We take the selection process very seriously, so only 5-10% of applicants become finalists. The average age of the fellow is 25 years old, all of them are from different parts of Ukraine and have higher education under their belt. Most importantly, the program sees in each of them a future educational leader.

Teach for Ukraine has built a multilevel system of training and support throughout the program, which consists of the Summer Institute, a master's program in educational and pedagogical sciences of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, mentoring and methodological support. The Summer Institute is a five-week educational program which is usually held in July-August and is obligatory for all fellows. The program of the Summer Institute includes classes in pedagogy and developmental psychology, leadership, educational management, teamwork and the practice of conducting classes accompanied by experienced teachers. Fellows who do not have a pedagogical education, at the beginning of the program enter the master's program in educational and pedagogical sciences, developed by the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University in partnership with Teach for Ukraine. Each fellow has a mentor who accompanies them from their first day at school through regular calls, class visits, consultations, methodological assistance and feedback.

Fellows can realize themselves in any field from education to business. A large percentage of Teach for Ukraine alumni keep working in the education field. This can be either a continuation of work in a public school as a subject teacher or a methodologist for educational courses, or work as a mentor for other teachers and much more. The main thing is that after 2 years of the program, a fellow becomes an educational leader with a deep understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of the system, with a wide range of acquired and developed skills, which makes them a valuable candidate in the labor market.
