The local history society of Bucha Lyceum No. 5 — where Teach for Ukraine fellow Nadiia Naida teaches history — has been raising funds to create a digital memory route, a project that will become part of the city’s historical heritage.
Nadiia decided to support the initiative by organizing a festive event to engage the community and help fundraise. The result? Bucha’s youth were swept up in the magic of authentic Ukrainian traditions.
“I was sooo nervous at first — this was our first big event.
There were string lights, Ukrainian music, and everyone really got into the traditional games. It warms my heart to see how deeply today’s youth connect with our customs, songs, and dances 🥹
That evening left no one indifferent — it was filled with joy, energy, and memories to last,” Nadiia shared.

During the celebration, participants made varenyky (traditional dumplings), took part in the Kalita-biting game, tried folk fortune-telling rituals, and danced. The event welcomed 45 guests and successfully raised 7,400 UAH for the project.
