The new compendium by the European Policy Centre, «Women in War: voices from the many front lines», brings together stories and perspectives on life and action during war — from resistance and loss to recovery and shaping the future.
It features the voices of women who live through war every day while continuing to teach, support others, carry responsibility, and rebuild themselves after loss.
Among them is Polina Vasylega, a teacher and Coordinator of the Education Recovery Project at the Teach For Ukraine.
Due to russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Polina lost her home in Luhansk Oblast, which is currently under russia’s temporary occupation. She has gone through a process of rebuilding her life and reclaiming her professional identity as a teacher.
In the compendium, Polina reflects on how war affects children and the importance of helping them regain the ability to imagine their future.
«I notice how hard it is for Ukrainian children to dream right now. Helping them set goals again, believe in a future again, feels like extremly important work.»

You can read what supported Polina herself and shaped her vision of education during wartime in the compendium, alongside the stories of other contributors.
We are grateful to Polina for her voice, and to the European Policy Centre for making it heard.
