The course “Brave to Teach” for educators on teaching during crisis was developed by the educational organization Teach For Ukraine NGO with support from the UNICEF Ukraine within the “Together for Learning” initiative, in partnership with the online education studio EdEra. The course launched in October 2022, and within just three months, 20,000 educators have used the recommendations on teaching and interacting with children during the war. The number of new participants continues to grow actively.
The course was created to help educators support their own mental health and overcome professional challenges during the war. Its program includes lectures with practical advice on how to organize a safe learning environment in crisis times, as well as recommendations on psychological support for teachers, and approaches to teaching and interacting with children during war. Materials include interviews with educational thought leaders and over 50 ready-made instructions and templates to assist the learning process under new conditions.
At launch, the online course received official recommendation from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Later, the course materials were approved by the Ukrainian Institute of Education Development. Recently, the organizing team received a review from the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance (NAZYAО) regarding the use of the “Brave to Teach” course and the integration of the “School – a Space of Safety” program into master’s degree curricula at relevant higher education institutions.
The course has received positive feedback not only from expert state institutions but also from participants themselves. Teachers noted in surveys that their main motivation to take the course was the need to gain new knowledge and professional development.
“The course is useful, despite many teachers already having knowledge and experience, but the conditions we face now require new approaches, psychological advice both for children and teachers,” said one participant of the “Brave to Teach” course. Educators also commented that they not only learned a lot of new things but also managed to systematize their existing knowledge.

“I really liked the course — a very relevant, interesting, and timely topic. I want to especially thank the speakers, listening to whom was a pleasure and delight. It was great that the lecture materials were accompanied by diagrams, tables, and examples. This course helped me to systematize, expand, and replenish my knowledge,” — participant of the “Brave to Teach” online course.
“The course is interesting in content, relevant in theme, and rich in didactic materials. I especially liked the video lectures, interviews, checklists, and infographics. The technical preparation of the course was excellent,” — participant of the “Brave to Teach” online course.

“This course was very interesting and necessary for me personally in the current situation. Since our school is located in Donetsk region and lacks a shelter, I would like to receive more information on remote formats of socio-psychological work, etc.,” — participant of the “Brave to Teach” online course.
