The educational organization Teach for Ukraine NGO and the online learning studio EdEra have developed a course on teaching during times of crisis. The course has received official endorsement from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and offers a certificate of professional development.

The full-scale war has posed unprecedented challenges for Ukrainian educators. This school year, 12,906 Ukrainian schools were able to reopen. Less than a third are operating in person; the rest function remotely or in a hybrid format. Over 400,000 Ukrainian students are currently studying abroad.

To support educators in caring for their own mental health and overcoming professional challenges during wartime, the Brave to Teach course was developed. The program includes lectures with practical advice on how to create a safe learning environment in times of crisis, along with guidance on teachers’ psychosocial support and how to engage with students during the war.

“At Teach for Ukraine, we are in constant communication with our teacher-fellows and partner school principals. We deeply understand the challenges educators are facing nearly every day—students breaking down in tears during a lesson due to tragic war news, or teachers’ constant anxiety about keeping children safe during air raid alerts. It is an enormous responsibility to teach during war, and even more so to find the inner strength to support both yourself and your students. We believe the Brave to Teach course will help restore teachers’ emotional resources and enhance their skills—so that as many educators as possible continue to teach bravely, in the name of our victory,”
said Solomiya Boikovych, Program Manager at Teach for Ukraine NGO.

The course consists of three educational modules:
Teachers
Students and the Learning Process
School and Staff in Martial Law Conditions

Throughout each module, participants will learn and apply practical tools shared by experts in safety policies, certified psychologists, and educational thought leaders. In addition, teachers will receive over 50 ready-to-use templates and guides to support their work in the new reality. Upon completion, participants will earn a 6-hour certificate of professional development.

“For over eight years, we’ve been developing educational resources for teachers, and even in peacetime, teaching requires a strong foundation in psychology and communication—often more than parents or relatives can provide. Since the war began, teachers have made tremendous efforts to continue educating students. They are heroes—and that’s not just a figure of speech, it’s the truth. We believe Brave to Teach will become an essential guidebook for every educator, helping them teach effectively even in crisis,”
said Illia Filipov, CEO of EdEra.

The course is free of charge. You can register here:
