A NEW PROGRAM for public school teachers and DLC center facilitators

Since July 2024, Teach for Ukraine NGO, with the support of the international humanitarian organization Save the Children, has been implementing the “Tutoring Catch-Up in Secondary Schools” project to address learning losses in Ukraine. This program is designed for public school teachers and DLC center facilitators in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Within the project, Teach for Ukraine has already conducted six training sessions for teachers of Ukrainian language, mathematics, physics, chemistry, history, and English. Each training program included fundamental tools for conducting lessons aimed at overcoming learning losses and integrating tutoring methods. Other topics covered were prevention of professional burnout, psycho-emotional support for students, and working with children with special educational needs.

  • 58 history teachers

“This project is our response to the challenge that the full-scale war has posed to Ukrainian education. Thanks to this initiative, over 300 teachers have gained the essential skills needed to help hundreds of children catch up on learning losses in schools across Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Poltava regions. It’s proven that tutoring-based learning is less stressful and helps restore children’s motivation for education,” says Inna Stepanets, project manager.

Soon, training participants will receive exclusive tutoring and Catch-Up packages from Teach for Ukraine to implement the Catch-Up program in their own schools. Teachers and DLC facilitators will be able to apply the Catch-Up tools in classrooms and DLC centers over 12 weeks.

We sincerely thank our partners, Save the Children, for supporting teachers and Ukrainian education. We are confident this project will be a crucial step toward restoring Ukraine’s education system.
