The Ministry of Digital Transformation and Teach For Ukraine have created a new educational series on the Diia.Education platform about how to become a mentor for schoolchildren. The goal is to develop mentoring skills to better understand students and master tools that will inspire children to love learning.
“Developing mentoring skills and using them to support younger generations is one of the real, tangible ways to impact Ukrainian education. The educational series ‘How to Become a Mentor for Schoolchildren?’ was created so that as many people as possible can effectively support Ukrainian students who face numerous obstacles on their path to quality education,” said Valeria Ionan, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for European Integration.
Over 12 episodes, educational experts will introduce you to the basics of mentor-mentee interaction. You will also learn:
- What mentoring is and the role of a mentor in a child’s life;
- How knowledge about brain function can help motivate children and support their development;
- New approaches to teaching children and the basics of the New Ukrainian School (NUS);
- What the New Ukrainian School (NUS) is and which tasks should be used when working with children.
“This educational series will be useful for everyone who wants to try themselves as a mentor. Certified and accredited tutors, mentors, psychologists, and thought leaders participated in its creation,” said Artem Ilchuk, founder of the creative educational agency GOVISUAL, which contributed to the course.
The series will also help you develop skills in basic psychological first aid. Children experiencing constant stress and anxiety due to traumatic events sometimes struggle to manage their emotions and feelings.
All these skills will also be taught during participation in the “StudMentor” program. This is an academic mentorship program from students to schoolchildren, where students help children from frontline regions catch up on school subjects and develop soft skills.
Registration is open throughout 2024.
“The series is a component of the academic mentoring program for Ukrainian schoolchildren ‘StudMentor.’ Through this, we want to support young people’s desire to be useful and helpful to the country, thereby promoting the idea of intellectual volunteering,” shared Yulia Bilyk, project manager at Teach For Ukraine.
Become rock stars in education — watch the educational series “How to Become a Mentor for Schoolchildren?” and help Ukrainian children realize their potential.
The educational series was created by the initiative of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine for the Diia.Education platform as part of the implementation of the Academic Mentoring Program for students “StudMentor” by Teach For Ukraine, supported by UNICEF Ukraine and funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
