In 2025, Teach for Ukraine NGO, with support from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Ukraine and financial backing from Norway, is implementing the project “Tutor Catch-Up Centers: Overcoming Educational Losses in Emergency Situations.”
In addition to the usual subject-based catch-up lessons aimed at compensating educational losses, the project introduces a new approach — “tutor hours” — three-week educational and cognitive summer intensives. Overall, the program aims to help students in grades 5–11 who have experienced learning setbacks due to the war to return to school and improve their academic performance.
The first step in implementing these lessons was an offline training in Odesa for teachers from four schools in the Mykolaiv and Odesa regions. As a result, four catch-up centers for addressing educational losses were established in the following schools: Fontanskyi, Krasnosilskyi, Oleksandrivskyi Lyceums in Odesa region, and Voznesensk Lyceum No. 8 in Mykolaiv region.
The training aimed to familiarize educators with the fundamentals of the tutor approach. Trainers from Teach for Ukraine shared practical tools that help:
– Recognize the child and their needs, establishing emotional contact for effective interaction;
– Organize work with students to overcome educational losses based on individual needs;
– Create a safe space where a child can express themselves and learn how to learn.
Importantly, during the offline training, teachers had the opportunity to practice these tools in action. They completed tasks and sought answers to questions they will soon address with students.
Following this training, teachers will conduct 24 sessions in each school over three months in autumn and will organize a soft skills development camp during the summer holidays.

Одна з цілей тренінгу — поділитись знаннями про емоційний інтелект, емоційне виховання та про філософію ненасильницької комунікації. Це — основа для довірливих стосунків, які вчителі зможуть створювати й у своїх класах навіть після завершення проєкту.
До слова, NRC — це міжнародна гуманітарна організація, яка з 2014 року працює в Україні, допомагаючи тим, хто постраждав від війни. Їхня освітня місія співзвучна з цілями ГО «Навчай для України»:
– забезпечення доступу до якісної, безпечної та інклюзивної освіти для дітей і молоді, які постраждали від війни та переміщення;
– сприяння добробуту дітей і вчителів та відновлення пошкоджених шкіл;
залучення молоді до діяльності в громадах.
Разом з NRC ГО «Навчай для України» продовжує місію подолання освітніх втрат та підтримки українських школярів й освітян.
