Bohdan Stanchuk from Lviv worked as a freelancer in IT, including with American clients. Three years ago, he radically changed his life — moving from a big city to a village in Odesa region to teach computer science at the local school.
Bohdan was born in Lviv region. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, he worked in trade, civil service, and IT sector. However, he wanted to help others develop and influence their lives. By chance, he found an advertisement for the Teach for Ukraine Fellowship program by the Teach for Ukraine NGO which sends young specialists to different regions to teach children, writes Suspilne.
“I personally wanted to work live. I worked freelance — you get a task, do it, work with America. But here you work with kids right in front of you and immediately see the results of your work. This is not some CRM system for a store in Texas, but here, in Dobroslav, you invest yourself and see the result,” Bohdan shared his motivation.
Dobroslav is a small town in Odesa region with about 8,000 residents. Since 2021, Bohdan has been teaching computer science at Dobroslav Lyceum. During this time, the teacher and his students have implemented several interesting projects, including creating power banks for socially vulnerable groups. For this project, they managed to attract donor funds to buy a 3D printer for the lyceum.
Now they are working on developing a prototype app about the Heroes of Ukraine. The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Lviv IT company N-iX.

Oleksiy Salhanik, a 9th-grade student, says that he especially likes the approach in computer science lessons — no classic lecture style.
“He actually showed us not theory, but practice — how to work, how to do everything. Now we have the opportunity to bring it all to life and print everything we modeled in his lessons,” Oleksiy says about the 3D printer classes.
