Teach for Ukraine is now accepting applications for its two-year leadership development program that places young, motivated changemakers in schools across small towns and rural communities.
The Fellowship recruits talented individuals to teach in underserved communities and support every child in reaching their full potential — no matter where they were born or live. Participants relocate to small towns and villages to teach in local schools, lead tutoring programs for students affected by learning loss, and organize extracurricular activities and community-based projects.
Fellows receive intensive pre-service training, ongoing mentorship, an official teaching contract with a full salary, and a monthly housing stipend. But most importantly, they gain a chance to grow as leaders and make a lasting impact.
Teach for Ukraine NGO works to close the opportunity gap between rural and urban students. According to the 2022 PISA results, the learning gap in mathematics between 15-year-old students in Ukraine’s cities and villages is equivalent to 4.5 years of schooling. This divide has only worsened due to the war and an ongoing teacher shortage: Ukraine is projected to lack over 108,000 teachers in the next 5 years. Today, the average teacher is 45 years old, and those under 30 make up less than 10% of the workforce — a number that has declined by 22% in just two years.

“Every year, Teach for Ukraine Fellows become a source of inspiration and role models for students in small communities. They motivate young people and help open new opportunities. We firmly believe that real change is only possible through systemic action. Investing in the leadership development of our Fellows and alumni not only delivers short-term results but also creates sustainable change that will shape future generations. This mission is especially crucial in the context of the full-scale war,” — says Inna Rakhmistryuk, Program Director.
This year, we’re looking to grow our community with more people who are ready for a challenge and committed to transforming the education system for the better.
You don’t need a teaching degree to apply. Before starting their work in schools, participants take part in a five-week intensive Summer Institute and receive support throughout the Fellowship.
To apply, you must:
- hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any field (a teaching background is not required);
- have solid knowledge of at least one school subject (you’ll take a placement test);
- be ready to relocate to a small town or village for the duration of the program.
“I joined the program because I believe that if you want to live in a conscious, thriving society, you must take responsibility and contribute to shaping it,”
— says Daria Nakonechna, a former digital marketing specialist who now teaches English in a rural school in Odesa Oblast.
Since 2017, the program has reached around 20,000 students across 44 schools in five regions: Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Lviv.
Currently, 29 Fellows are teaching in Ukrainian schools — alumni of top Ukrainian and international universities, as well as professionals from business, tech, media, and other fields.
In total, 80 people have already completed the Teach for Ukraine Fellowship.
The first application deadline is January 31. Apply now: bit.ly/TFU-form-registration
